A Product of the City
My name is Brian Blum. I was born and raised in Miami, FL, but knew it wasn't where I was meant to be. I had a fascination with movies and was constantly making short films with my friends. I attended NYU's Tisch School of the Arts where I received a BFA in FIlm & Television Production with a focus in Directing and Sound, and knew this city was where I was going to stay.
All-Around Experience
Being both a director AND a sound mixer gives me a more intimate understanding of how the minutiae of sound can have a dramatic effect on the quality of performance and the salience of the story in a film. With experience in many other departments on a film set (Camera, Production, HMU, Props) I have a thorough understanding of how a set runs which is an invaluable asset that allows me to operate smoothly and ensure that my department is never being waited on.
How It All Began
In 2011 I was producing a short film. The day before we went into production, our sound mixer dropped out. Unable to find a replacement, I hired a line producer and had a sound mixer I had worked with before teach me the basics of sound mixing overnight. That was the first film I mixed. Long story short, that project set the wheels in motion that led to my career today.
